Area Rug Care & Maintenance

Daily Area Rug Care

Area rugs, much like carpet, require some basic care and maintenance to continue to look great.

Daily rug care involves regular vacuuming. By vacuuming your rug, you are working to remove dirt, dust, and other debris that are present in the fibers. Debris, if left unattended, can harm your rug and cause it to take on a grungy look. How often you vacuum will depend on the traffic that your area rug receives.

Entry mats will help to limit the amount of outside debris that enters your home. You should also remove shoes before walking across your rug. To avoid sun damage to your rug, you should move it every few months.

Dirt & Spills

For solid messes, use your vacuum cleaner to remove dirt and other debris in a timely manner. The longer you wait to address the mess, the more likely it is to cause lingering damage to your area rug. When a liquid spill or accident takes place, the key is to act fast. If a liquid accident happens, clean it up immediately to avoid long-term damage. Grab a cloth and absorb the liquid before dabbing at the stain with a cloth dipped in cold water. If this doesn't do the trick, consult your manufacturer.

Bonus Tips

Always pre-test any new cleaning supplies on an old shirt or towel before placing them directly on your area rug or carpet. When in doubt about whether a cleaning product is right for your rug, consult your manufacturer.
